When A Proposal Goes Wrong

It happens to the best of people. Sometimes she just doesn’t say yes. Maybe she isn’t ready, or maybe she isn’t as in love with you as you thought. So, what do you do when a proposal goes wrong?

The first thing you should do is determine what wrong, if possible. A “no” on a marriage proposal does not necessarily mean no forever. It may simply means the timing wasn’t right. Communication is the key to finding out what went wrong, and how you can rectify the problem.

Perhaps your girlfriend was simply surprised by the proposal. Or, maybe she expected it but the setting upset her for some reason? Or perhaps she didn’t like the ring? But if your girlfriend said no because she realized that she doesn’t want to be with you for the rest of your life, it’s time to step back and give her space. If she changes her mind, she will let you know.

If you’re left with a ring on your hands, you may be able to return it. Here at Marlows, we are happy to refund you for a returned ring within seven days of purchase. We respect that engagement rings are often purchased well in advance, but to extend the refund period you need to make a special arrangement with us beforehand.

Diamonds decrease in value after purchase, but this doesn’t mean you can’t sell your ring on to someone else to make a little money back. Above all, don’t despair. Remember that sometimes the timing just isn’t right.
